CityPicks
Pick of the Week
Those of you who follow Cathy Scott's column in CityLife know that she's
got a knack for illuminating the intricacies of crime and punishment. After
writing two definitive crime biographies (The Killing of Tupak Shakur, The
Murder of Biggie Smalls), Scott turned her attention to the death of Susan
Berman, daughter of Davie Berman, a notorious casino mogul and mafia leader.
Berman became a writer herself, writing about Vegas' underworld chiefs, before
becoming a victim of a violent homicide. Scott's Murder of a Mafia Daughter:
The Life and Tragic Death of Susan Berman (Barricade, 2002) details the
crime's connections to New York real estate heir Robert Durst, who's presently
awaiting trial for another murder in Texas.
And she's signing the book on Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m. at the Young Israel
of Las Vegas Synagogue (9590 W. Sahara Ave., adjacent to the Sahara West
Library). She'll also give a reading and speak about Berman and the
investigation, after which there'll be questions and a discussion.
