Hi Cathy,

Were you consulted for the new B.I.G. movie?

Hi, Jim--

Voletta Wallace spoke early on with me about collaborating on a project. But she moved on. When it comes to writing about her son, she appears to prefer rememberances of him growing up and the mark he left on the music industry, that sort of thing -- both valid storylines. I included lengthy interviews with her in my book, The Murder of Biggie Smalls. Mrs. Wallace is a wonderful woman, and I wish her well with the Notorious movie project. The film has been a long time in the making.

I'm working on a second edition of my book, which will be out in about six months. I'll keep everybody posted via my blog (http://cathyscott.blogspot.com/ and Website http://www.cathyscott.com/

Thanks for the note.

Best,

Cathy

Dear Ms. Scott,

Have you abandoned plans to release a second (updated) edition of your book on the Binion case? As it's my opinion that you have interesting things to say about it that would be rather disappointing.

Kind regards, --Michel De Scheerder

Hi, Michel--

Thank you for the vote of confidence! Yes, I'm currently working on an updated version of Death in the Desert. Basically, I'm making a few changes within the original text and adding an addendum about the final outcome and where the players in the story are today.

Watch my website for updates, but it should be out in about four months. Thanks for taking the time to contact me.

All my best,
Cathy

Hello I read both of your books about the killing of Tupac and  Big. I was wondering why the autopsy picture was so unprofessional  and where are the other pictures. If you know the source You should  release the other pictures. In a real autopsy theres at least 10  photos. email me.  --George A.

  Hello, George--
Autopsy photos are not taken with commercial cameras and are not  taken by photographers. They're taken with low-grade cameras typically used by every-day people in 1996.    Also, more than one camera was in the coroner's examining room
that day. Detectives and examiners take the photos that are used for their records. That's all. That also is standard procedure by medical  examiners across the country. I was given one original autopsy photo.  The others (typically around six to 10) are on file at both the coroner's office and the police department.
    Thanks for your comment. --Cathy

Hi.

First off I want to apologise for being a little slow on the uptake. I know you've probably read a ton of emails like this, but I thought I'd send this little quick one anyway.

After downloading a 2Pac album...I started to wonder about the "Is he Alive, Is he Dead" theories, so I had a glance on google.com. I suppose in a way I was always convinced that he was still alive, but then again I think everybody did at some point or another.

Anyway, I came across this one site, I can't remember what it was called but it went deeply into depth about the whole shooting insident, where he was shot, what happened ect ect. Then right at the bottom it went into a story about an Autopsy photo that had been leaked onto the internet, so I looked it up and I came across the Black and White version of the photo. First off I've got to say...it was one hell of a shock. Not because of me being a hardcore fan or anything but because I had never come across it before. I then went on to read some more websites and how everyone claims that it was fake and then parts of the body didn't look right.

I am personally 100% convinced that it is him. I've seen a few Autopsy's being performed and the amount of mutilation they go into is quite mind boggling. You can even see the bullet hole in the right side of his chest.

The only thing that confuses me and is what I wanted to ask you is, as the hospital knew he had been shot twice and they knew where, why did Pac have to have an Autopsy in the first place? surely it was just a matter of he was shot. In all honesty I'm not a 2Pac fan, I like the song "Changes" and thats it, but I like to read about things like this.

Anyway I admire what you have done and respect all the work and effort you have put into opening people's eyes as to what really happened. If you could send me a reply that would be great. Again I apologise for being about 7 years to late, but you don't really look for something that your not really interested in.

All the best and I hope to hear from you soon.  --Ian

Hi, Ian--

Thanks for you note. To answer your question, all homicide victims, regardless of the means of death, are required by law to have autopsies performed on their bodies. In other words, it's standard procedure. In case of a trial, especially, autopsies are important as evidence, because the data can reveal the direction the bullets came from, how close the perpetrator was to the victim when he was shot, that sort of thing. So, again, autopsies are important.

Again, thanks for your note. If you get a chance, you might want to read my book, The Killing of Tupac Shakur. You'll come away from it with a deeper understanding of what went down in the days and weeks before and after Tupac's death.

Best,
Cathy

Dear Cathy,
I was looking at many sites about what people think of Tupac's death
and in the process I came across the Las Vegas SUN site. I read the
FAQ's, which answered most of my  questions. I still am still curious
of a few things that I run into on a lot of sites about his death. Is
it true that Tupac wore a bulletproof vest? If it is then how come he
wasn't wearing it? How come there were no suspects to his death? I
saw the Tupac Shakur's death video on the Las Vegas SUN site and it
showed the assassin getting out of the car and shooting him. Why
would no one know who he is if he got out? Why wouldn't the two
ladies they were just talking to not have seen him if he got out?
Even if he didn't get out of the vehicle, they still could have seen
through Tupac's car's windows, couldn't they? Is it possible that
Biggie was involved in the murder?
I know it has been so long since his death but to tell you the truth,
I'm only 15 and I was listening to Twista's song "Hope" and that's
when I found out that Tupac and Biggie are dead. Before that I never
knew. It's kind of embarrassing. I am going to order your book so if
any of my questions are covered in the book then I'll learn in a few
days I guess. Hope I get a reply soon. Take care.
                                                     Jesse

Hi, Jesse--
You ask very good questions. Tupac was given a bullet-resistant vest
with Death Row's logo on it, along with a bunch of other rappers. The
temperature was 110 degrees in Las Vegas and Kevlar vests weigh about
40 pounds. Tupac rarely wore the vest and didn't bring it with him to
Las Vegas. There were suspects in his murder, but Las Vegas police
said they didn't have enough evidence to prosecute.
No, Biggie Smalls was not involved in any way, shape or form in
Tupac's death. It was street justice, plain and simple, by gang members.
Thanks for ordering the book. Yes, your questions will be answered
in it.
Best regards,
Cathy

Hi cathy,

Why is that tupac keeps coming out with albums when he is dead? He has come out with more stuff then when he was alive.
Thanks Joe

Dear Joe,
Tupac hasn't been coming out with albums, his record company has. He recorded untold number of tracks before he was murdered, which accounts for the albums since his death. John Lennon was murdered as well. Ten years after his death, new cuts of old songs were released. That doesn't mean John is out there and isn't dead; it means some of the music he recorded before his death was released afterward.

Best,
Cathy

I've read the majority of your book about pac the revised copy, and I feel that you've done a great job of answering alot of questions. Tupac is my favorite rapper, and I can speak for most of his fans when we say we don't want to beleive he's dead. Thats how deep his fans love are for him. He's like this generations Elvis. But one question I hope that you can answer is HOW COME WE NEVER SAW A FUNERAL FOR TUPAC? We've seen one for Biggie, lefteye, Aaliyah, Jam Master J, but not for Tupac? That's the one thing that keeps me beleiving he's alive. See I've heard all the theories about him faking his death, and in this day and age, I could make a Tupac autopsy photo myself. Not to discredit you. The only way that anyone could really silence the majority of the "pac beleivers" is if we saw a funeral back in 96. Please mail me an answer about this cause i'd like to hear what u have to say about that. Also to see most of the theories of tupac faking his death I recommend that u go to TupacFans.com, to see most of these theories.
ANSWER:
Hello,
Funerals are individual, private matters. They're only public when the families want them to be public. Afeni Shakur has publicly said that she did not want a large funeral for her son. She chose, instead, to have an intimate one with just a few friends and family members invited, so they could mourn for him in private. As you've probably seen over the years since their sons' deaths, Voletta Wallace and Afeni Shakur are very different women. Mrs. Wallace chose to let the public be involved in Biggie's service, by having a farewell procession from the Manhattan mortuary to the Brooklyn neighborhood, where he grew up. Mrs. Shakur chose not to do that. They were their sons and they had every right to say goodbye to them in her own, individual ways.
Thanks for the note.

Hi Cathy,

I would just like to say that I appreciate what you did for the late
Tupac Shakur. Your article "Gone but not forgotten" says it all about
the movie Tupac Ressurection and about Pac as a person. If I'm able to
purchase your book here in Holland it would be an honor to read it while
I heard good things about it.

All my best,

Niels Goezinne

Hi, Niels--
You should be able to buy the book from Holland, click here. That's Amazon.com's German site. Otherwise, go to my Tupac book page and click onto "buy an autographed copy" and I'll send you one. Thanks very much for your kind words. I hope you enjoy the book.

Best regards, Cathy

hi my names matthew ferris im a white engish male as im a great fan off tupac im reading the book you wrote what ive read so far is really good i think its good that youve tried to find out the truth and tell the world i think thats what he would want! the question im going to ask i bet uve been asked many times and i can emagon if it was true you woulkdnt say but is tupac still alive?

many thanks

Hi, Matthew--
First, thank you for taking the time to read my Tupac book and to drop me a note as well. Unfortunately, no, Tupac is not alive. Despite rumors to the contrary, he died in Las Vegas. Most of those theories, by the way, are meant to spur record sales and keep the myth alive. It appears to be working!

All my best, Cathy

Gwan cathy i love tupac hes like ma idol and i still believe he is alive, if you look carefully in the picture on the front cover of your book you can see that he has a tatoo on his neck and in his autopsy picture i believe is not there. It might be because its black and white i dont know. So please just show us the colour photograph

Hi,
Yes, the tattoo doesn't show because the autopsy photo inside the Killing of Tupac Shakur is in black-and-white and was reproduced for the book on a lower quality, paperback-grade paper. I won't be including the original color photo on my Web site at this time. Possibly at a later date.
Thanks for your note.

All my best,
Cathy
