June, 2000 Hello,
all; June has been a hectic month. I've been writing regularly for about a year for APBNews.com, an online newspaper covering crime, justice and safety that recently received several national awards, including a prestigious one from the National Press Club and Investigative Reporters & Editors. But, alas, their financing dropped out from under them the first week in June after a bad NASDAQ week for dot.com companies. Surprisingly, half of the 140 full-time staffers and part-time stringers, including me, have stayed on voluntarily while they continue to seek funding. A skeleton crew has since been hired back after an unnamed backer covered APBNews for a week as they negotiate a plan. I'm still crossing my fingers -- it's a great site and a shame if it folds On
my articles page this week is a story I wrote about my next-door neighbor,
Brett Gall, who was in a terrible car accident that totaled his truck, broke
his neck and landed him in a coma. He's since awakened and is working very
hard, in a rehab hospital, at returning to his life. Thankfully, he wasn't
paralyzed. My article gives all the details. I
just finished reading the final galley sheets for "The Murder of Biggie
Smalls." It's very close to being released, as is the biography about
my uncle, Father Seraphim Rose. My publisher, Regina Orthodox Press, told me
two weeks ago that the Seraphim Rose book would be out in 10 weeks -- and
counting. "The Murder of Biggie Smalls" is being pre-sold on
Amazon.com. Thanks
for checking in. Best
regards,
