Hi, all--
It's been a busy few months, packed with lots of writing and travel.
I recently returned from Whitefish, MT from the 13th Annual Flathead River
Writers Conference sponsored by the Authors of the Flathead. I was a presenter, alongside such notable
speakers as: Jodee Blanco, a New
York publicist and bestselling author of Please Stop Laughing At Me;
Richard Krevolin, a Los Angeles-based
screenwriter; and Kent Carroll, former editor-in-chief of Grove Press and
founder of the premier publishing house of Carroll & Graf.
Whitefish, not far from Glacier National Park, is gorgeous, but I ended up
working most of the time and didn't take in as many hikes as I had planned.
Still, it was a great experience to address such a wonderful group of
talented and up-and-coming authors and attendees from around the country.
I've appeared on many radio shows throughout the region in the past couple
of months, talking about the new Ted Binion murder trial, the seven-year
anniversary of Tupac Shakur's death, and Robert Durst's trial in Galveston
Bay and Susan Berman's murder. The New York Post interviewed me about the
Durst case. And I was on the air in September with several out-of-town radio
DJs for the Tupac anniversary.
I'm currently working on three new projects, one of which is a collaboration
with two gang detectives on a rap-related book, and the second, a
collaboration with a writer in Las Vegas for a murder-related story. The
third is still in the development stages and on the back burner for now.
More about that later after I finish the other two. Two are currently being
shopped for a New York publishing house by my agent.
I recently spent some time with a chimpanzee named Terry, born in the wild
but used as a performer in the Ice Capades. He lives at the
Las Vegas zoo and is visited in
his habitat three times a week by his former handler. I wrote a feature
story for Las Vegas CityLife about
their 18-year friendship.
Keep sending in your e-mails. I enjoy reading them all, and I try to answer
each of them, although I'm not always able to because of the volume. Thanks
very much for your patience.
Your friend,
