Cathy is the nonfiction author of many narrative true-crime books, some of which have been released in the UK and Poland. She spent nearly five months as an embedded reporter with an animal welfare organization and wrote a book about it. She traveled to Somalia to cover Operation Restore Hope and did around-the-clock 72-hour coverage on the streets of Los Angeles to cover the L.A. Riots following the Rodney King verdict.

She worked 23 years as an award-winning newspaper reporter on the crime beat, which included covering the mob, plus gang-related shootings, including Tupac Shakur's murder, which became her first book.
